Samsung will be showing off its new Galaxy Tab 8.9 Android tablet later today for the first time, but details have leaked out early thanks to a carelessly placed specs sheet at the CTIA show. They confirm existing speculation that the device will keep the dual-core processor seen in its bigger Galaxy Tab 10.1 sibling.The new device's official unveiling comes tonight at a Samsung Unpacked press event at CTIA, but PocketNow has managed to snap a document presumably intended to be displayed on Samsung's stand at the show, outlining the Galaxy Tab 8.9's vital statistics.
Unsurprisingly, the screen is an 8.9-incher, with 1,280x800-pixel resolution. The new tablet is 8.6mm thick and weighs in at 470g, with a 1GHz dual-core processor inside, which should give it a decent amount of grunt compared to its rivals.
There's no news on the flavour of Android running on the Galaxy Tab 8.9, but take it as read that it'll be Android 3.0 Honeycomb. That said, Samsung is clearly planning to make a big deal out of its own user interface overlaid on Google's OS.
According to the document, the new device will offer a personalised homescreen including Buddies Now, Agenda, Email, Weather, News, Stock, Gallery, Date and Bookmark widgets.
There will also be a 'Mini Apps Tray' at the bottom of the screen, which you'll be able to tap on to make background-running apps spring up, without having to switch them on the screen. It'll make more sense when it's in motion, but the idea is clearly to try to improve on the way multi-tasking works in existing tablets, both Android and the iPad.
